Community Outreach and Education

The Refugee Development Center has experience in the following (past and current) Community Outreach and Education programs:

    • Volunteer Trainings: Offered before each program at the RDC starts, this training  seeks to present information about the history and mission of the Refugee Development Center, offer basic strategies for teaching English, and help participants gain knowledge about the backgrounds of refugees from various countries.
    • Cultural Competency Trainings: Offered in conjunction with the Lansing School District, these trainings seek to help teachers and other service providers understand the social, educational, and cultural backgrounds of refugees from various countries; gain practical strategies for interacting with non-English speaking clients; and move toward fostering culturally competent workplaces.
    • Uniting Languages: The Community Interpreter Project: The RDC has built  a database of bi-/multi-lingual interpreters in the Lansing area. If you know someone who would be comfortable interpreting in an educational setting, please contact contact us at
